Teach – #52Snapshots

For this week’s #52Snapshots of Life theme teach, I decided to share some photos of a trick I’ve been practicing with Sadie. I take a treat or piece of food and hide it in one of my hands. Then I hold out both of my hands, closed so Sadie can’t see the treat, and ask her “Which hand is it in?” Sadie needs to respond by tapping the correct fist with her paw before I give her the treat. If she uses her mouth or head or tries to force my hand open, I just repeat the command. But when she uses her paw to correctly identify the hand with the treat, I open my hand and allow her to take the treat.

Below – #52Snapshots

This week’s #52Snapshots of Life theme is below. The word below is used very frequently in Sadie’s daily life, especially when we are at our office. Multiple times a day someone will ask where Sadie is, only to find her below the conference table or below one of the chairs. And Sadie’s main home-away-from-home is located below my desk, where she sleeps away the boring hours when I’m actually getting work done.

Earth – #52Snapshots

Today’s #52Snapshots of Life theme is Earth. Protecting our planet and the environment is a very important cause that is the central focus of two holidays this week, Earth Day and Arbor Day. Sadie and I celebrated Earth Day on Wednesday by enjoying some outdoor time. All our Spring flowers are in bloom and all the trees are starting to come to life again. It’s a great time of year to enjoy the beauty of nature. Unfortunately it’s also the time of year when breathing in all that nature causes sneezing fits and sinus headaches. So once Sadie had her fill of nature this Earth Day, we decided to celebrate the planet indoors. I blew up my inflatable Earth beach ball, and Sadie and I knocked the ball around in the comfort of my mostly allergen-free home.

Foolish – #52Snapshots

This week’s 52 Snapshots of Life theme is foolish. To go with this topic, I would like to share a few photos of what I think is Sadie’s most foolish habit – finding the most uncomfortable place for a nap. In these two photos, Sadie has worked hard to move all of the comfortable options out of the way to get to that cold, hard, wooden flooring. Why sleep on one of two dog beds or a nice soft carpet or even a comfy human bed when you can nap on some bamboo? I know dogs usually pick the floor when looking for a cool place to lie down, but Sadie will sometimes sleep like this in the middle of a blizzard in winter. To me this is the epitome of foolishness – I just don’t get it.

Spring – #52Snapshots

This week’s 52 Snapshots of Life theme is Spring. Although it’s technically Spring right now, the weather here in NJ hasn’t quite caught up yet. In fact, it actually snowed on the first day of Spring last week. So today I’m going to share some photos from last Spring, in the hopes that real Spring weather isn’t too far away.
