Recently I was given the opportunity to try out a cool new gadget – the Petzi Treat Cam. It’s like a baby monitor for your furbabies, but with way more features. You can watch a live video feed of your pets from any mobile device and can send your pets a little reward right from your phone! There are lots of cameras out there that can monitor your pet at home, but I love that with the Petzi Treat Cam I can send my little pup a treat while I’m having dinner at a restaurant, or I can give her a little snack as she waits for me to finish up at the grocery store.
The Petzi Treat Cam works in conjunction with the Petzi app on your mobile device. The app is free to download for both Apple and Android devices. You use the app to sync your treat cam to your home’s wifi network. Once your treat cam is synced with both wifi and your mobile device, you can begin viewing the live feed from the camera. The video feed is high quality and very reliable, unlike another pet monitor I owned in the past that always failed to connect. While you watch the treat cam’s video feed, you will also notice a few buttons on the screen. You can press the camera button to take a snapshot of the current image from the treat cam’s video feed. You can press the microphone button to speak directly to your pet through the treat cam’s speakers. And you can also press the Treat Cam’s namesake button – the button to deliver the treats. The Petzi Treat Cam even comes with a few sample packs of dog and cat treats so that you can test out that treat button right away and learn the size of treat that fits best.
But the Petzi app is much more than just a remote control for your treat cam. The Petzi app is also a social network for pet lovers. You can view and like photos from other treat cam users. You can make friends and comment about each other’s photos. You can see the most popular photos, or find only dog or only cat photos.
The Petzi Treat Cam is the perfect way to teach your dog to handle separation anxiety. You can leave your dog alone indoors, while you watch how your dog reacts to your absence from your phone or tablet outside. You can send your dog a treat if he or she is good after five minutes, ten minutes, etc. or you can run back inside if your dog is too upset. You can try to calm your pet through the built in speaker to see if just hearing your voice will make your dog feel happier. And you can monitor how long it takes for your dog to calm down or get upset and plan your outings accordingly.
Recently I went on vacation for two weeks. I knew that Sadie was happy and safe with her doggie sitter, but I still missed seeing her little face. With the Petzi Treat Cam I was able to see what she was up to in real time. As long as you have wifi access, you can sign onto the app and watch your pets from anywhere in the world! It’s also useful if you want to make sure your furbaby is getting the proper care and attention, like when you’re trying out a new dog sitter or dog walker.
Below I’ve included some of the photos I’ve taken of Sadie while watching her on my Petzi Treat Cam. In the first photo, Sadie is a bit alarmed by this new gadget that just made some strange noises in her home. But then she realized those noises were actually treats being released by the strange gadget. So Sadie and her Petzi soon became close friends. She began to sit and stare at the camera, watching for more treats. The last photo was taken in complete darkness using the Treat Cam’s night vision setting.
