The theme this week in the Pet Photography Challenge Facebook group is thirsty. Sadie was being stubborn during our photo session and refused to drink while the camera was pointed at her. The only way I could get her interested enough in drinking water was to interrupt Sadie playing with her squeaky ball. I placed her ball near her water dish to try to convince her to drink while I took photos. Instead of drinking, Sadie grabbed the ball and put it into her water dish. She thought it was a great new game, drinking water around the ball and then trying to grab the ball back out of the water.

Portion Problems
As you all know, Sadie is a picky eater. Some days she acts like she’s starving and will eat anything in sight. Other days she will only eat her dog food if I spoon feed her a few bites. At the moment, the most frustrating aspect of these eating habits is portion size. Of course Sadie’s vet has recommended the appropriate amount of food for Sadie’s dinner. But when I prepare the half cup of dry food mixed with a little wet food that the vet recommends, Sadie barely eats half of it. So the next night I give Sadie a smaller portion, which she finishes immediately and begs for more food. So the night after that I give Sadie a larger portion, but she won’t eat any of it and it all gets thrown out. I just can’t predict how much Sadie will be willing to eat at any given time. Some nights I give her a full portion and she eats only half. I wake up the next morning planning to throw away the leftover food, only to discover that Sadie has gotten up in the middle of the night and eaten every bite. Sadie is certainly talented at keeping me on my toes and making sure our life together never gets boring.

Doggy Room Service
Sadie got into a little mischief in the hotel room at the BlogPaws conference. When my room service dinner came one night, my dog was naturally interested in the arrival of food. But when I flipped the cover off of my plate, Sadie got even more excited. But she wasn’t focused on my plate. Sadie was dancing around trying to get at the upside down plate cover. It took me a minute to realize that to doggy eyes my up-turned room service cover actually looked like a metal dog bowl. Sadie was barking at me and giving me sad puppy eyes to get her paws on the “bowl”, so I decided to humor her. We were on vacation after all. That night I fed Sadie her dinner in the room service plate cover and she loved every minute, and morsel, of it.

Royal Service
Sadie’s princess dog bowl was very appropriate yesterday when I served her royal highness some water in bed. And by bed of course I’m referring to my bed, because the princess has to have the best bed in the house.

Bags, Not Bowls
Thanks for liking us! Sadie and I really appreciate the love!
So I was refilling Sadie’s dog bowl yesterday, and when it was full, I offered her the bowl. She came over, sniffed it, and then walked away. That’s not unusual for Sadie. She’s a grazer, so she eats randomly throughout the day and I figured she just wasn’t hungry at the time. Since I already had the dog food out, I decided to refill the baggie of food I keep in the bag I take to work everyday. I took the new baggie of food and brought it to the bed, where I dumped out the rest of my work bag to go through it and rearrange things. While I was going through my stuff, Sadie started snooping around on the bed. When she noticed her baggie of food, she started pawing at it. I decided I’d better open it quickly for her, or I’d end up with a hole in the bag. As soon as the baggie was open, Sadie started eating. Apparently food in her bowl is unacceptable, but the same food in a baggie becomes irresistible.
