These pictures are from Sadie’s very first trip to the beach last year! It was cold that day, so I Sadie and I didn’t go into the ocean at all, but we still had a blast in the sand. When we first got there I stepped onto the beach but Sadie hesitated on the boardwalk. She was looking back and forth from me to the sand, as if asking “Really? I’m supposed to walk on this stuff? J is for Jumping – #atozchallenge

One of the most common behavioral issues dog owners have to deal with is jumping. Excited dogs jump on people, jump on furniture, and generally just jump for joy. To handle this issue, dog owners generally try to maintain a calm environment and impose boundaries for their pets. But my Sadie does not act like the typical dog. I actually have trouble encouraging her to jump. On most days, Sadie refuses to jump onto the couch, onto her window seat, onto the bed, etc. I’ve had to invest in a series of doggy stairs for key places in the house, such as the stairs to my bed pictured above. Midnight Snacker

Sadie is not the typical food motivated dog. The vet calls her a grazer; she eats a little at a time and rarely cleans her plate. Because of this I usually leave a bowl of dry food out all the time for her to snack on whenever she feels like it. Normally that’s not a problem, but for some reason Sadie has decided that lately she needs a snack in the middle of the night. I’ll be fast asleep when suddenly I’m woken up by a crunching sound at four in the morning. Continue reading →

It’s Time to Spring Forward!

It’s that time of year again – daylight savings. We need to spring forward and set our clocks one hour ahead before we go to bed tonight. Although I don’t enjoy losing an hour of sleep, I’m glad that Spring is getting closer. Continue reading →

The Temptation of TP

This picture is a reminder that I need to tell house guests to keep my home dog-proof. A relative was spending the night and noticed that the toilet paper was running out, so they thoughtfully left a brand new roll on the floor in the bathroom. I woke up in the middle of the night to strange sounds coming from the bathroom and noticed that the dog was no longer in bed. I found Sadie sitting on the bathroom floor, using her back paws to keep the roll of toilet paper in place, while her front paws were moving at lightening speed unrolling the tp and shredding it to pieces. I ran to get the camera and caught the picture of her still in action. Continue reading →
