YourDesignerDogBlog: The Adventures of Sadie the Yorkipoo
On this Flashback Friday I’ve decided to show you a few of Sadie’s puppy pictures that didn’t turn out quite the way I planned. Every time I come across these photos I giggle, but I’ve never thought about showing them to others until now. Hopefully some of these will put a smile on your faces too.

One day, not long after Sadie came to live with me, my little puppy decided to take a nap in her crate. She was so new and adorable that I couldn’t take my eyes off of her for more than ten minutes at a time, so I kept going into the room to watch her sleep. (Now, two years later, I can go almost a whole hour without checking up on her, lol.) At one point I noticed that Sadie had stuck her head out of the crate, so she was basically sleeping with her head on the hardwood floor and her body in the crate. It looked really uncomfortable to me and I decided that she needed a pillow. So I got one of her soft, bone shaped toys and put it on the floor in front of the crate.

In this flashback photo my adorable little puppy is posing with one of her butterfly toys. I must confess that I’m a little obsessed with all things butterfly. I don’t actually like the bugs themselves, but I love everything and anything with a butterfly design or in a butterfly shape. So when I was puppy shopping in preparation for bringing Sadie home the first time, naturally I sought out every dog-related butterfly product I could find. Sadie must have had at least ten butterfly toys waiting for her when she arrived. Unfortunately not a single butterfly lived past those first few weeks. Turned out my new puppy loved eating stuffed toys, including butterflies. I still can’t help but buy Sadie butterfly accessories like collars and dresses whenever I come across them, but I’ve learned my lesson with the stuffed toys. All stuffed animals now live well above Sadie’s reach. Occasionally you’ll find her staring longingly up at a stuffed animal, whining at me to get it down for her. But since I know she’ll only play with it for five minutes and then start to eat it, I now skip ahead and go straight to the eating: I distract with a healthy snack.

I’ve noticed lately quite a few commercials on TV about making sure your prescription drugs are out of reach of your teenagers and children. But is everyone making sure all medication is out of reach of your pets? I’m sure you all realize that if your pet accidentally eats medication of any kind, you need to seek immediate veterinary assistance. Most common human medications are poisonous to animals. But what about medication safely stored in childproof bottles? If the bottle is out on a counter or table, your pet can get it. And childproof does not mean puppyproof. Continue reading
