Just like humans, many of our canine and feline companions suffer from allergies. They can get the same itchy skin, watery eyes, and runny noses that many people suffer through, along with uncomfortable disgestive issues or ear infections. It can be tough for humans to identify the specific triggers for their own allergies. You may need to have many conversations with your doctor, endure dozens of testing needles, spend hundreds or thousands of dollars, and still have to figure out your triggers with trial and error. Now imagine how tough that would be for a dog or cat that can’t describe their symptoms or pinpoint exactly when or where the allergic reaction began. The at-home testing kit from ImmuneIQ makes discovering the possible causes for your pets’ allergies much easier.

All you need to test your pet is in the kit that ImmuneIQ will mail right to your door. The test is completely painless for your pet and can easily be done in a few short minutes. First you need to swab the inside of your pet’s mouth with the enclosed q-tip. This is the hardest part of the process, or at least it was for Sadie and I. Sadie kept trying to eat the q-tip, and then when she realized it was not food, she would not open her mouth. But if you have a more cooperative pet, then this process will be a breeze.

Next you need to brush your pet and clean off the brush. Place some of the hair you remove from the brush in the little baggie that is part of the kit. Then  fill out the form and your part of the testing is complete. Just slip your test kit into the prepaid envelope provided by ImmuneIQ and place it in a mailbox. It’s a quick, easy process. With the swabbing and the hair collecting, it kind of felt like I was playing CSI. The fact that ImmuneIQ’s testing lab is located in Las Vegas enhanced the CSI feeling.

As soon as the lab finished testing Sadie’s sample, they immediately emailed me a PDF with her results, as well as a copy of the eBook The A to Z Guide to Allergies in Pets. The eBook gives you an in depth guide to how your pet’s immune system functions and is very helpful in understanding exactly how and why your pet may have allergies.

Luckily for me, Sadie’s results were generally favorable. She does not have any environmental sensitivities, which I’m grateful for. As you can see in the red area of the results below, Sadie displays the typical canine sensitivity to dairy, as well as rice, corn, and bread. This confirms what most veterinary experts recommend, to avoid foods that use fillers like corn and rice. Sadie is also sensitive to tuna and shrimp, which she has never eaten, because coincidentally, I am also allergic to tuna and shrimp.

In general, this allergy testing has proved helpful for fine-tuning Sadie’s diet. I know what types of food to avoid and moderate, and I also know that I don’t have to worry about Sadie trying more exotic meats, as she tested in the positive/green range for most of those. As someone who suffers from food allergies myself, it’s nice to have the peace of mind that Sadie will be ok if she eats something unfamiliar. And as someone who also stuffers from environmental allergies, I’m very happy knowing that Sadie isn’t affected by the pollen count or any other household allergens.

So whether you’re looking to find the cause of a specific symptom, or you suspect your pet may have allergies or you just want the peace of mind of knowing what particular foods or other substances you need to avoid to keep your pet feeling as healthy as possible, ImmuneIQ is a quick, easy, affordable way to get answers.
