Sadie may look content in this photo, but that’s because the water isn’t on yet. Bath time is not a happy time for Sadie. She hates being wet, she hates being dried off. But she also hates being dirty. Unfortunately for Sadie, bath time is one of those unavoidable parts of life that you have to just put on a brave face and get through it. At least she’s stopped trying to jump out of the tub. I think Sadie finally gets the concept that if she stays still it will be over much quicker.
This weekend Sadie had her first outdoor bath! Normally Sadie uses the bathtub, just like the rest of the family, but this time I decided to take advantage of the last official weekend of Summer and the really warm weather to try something new. Her dog house pool seemed like the perfect place for outdoor bathing. I filled the pool from the hose and mixed in some warm water that I brought out from the house in a bucket. Sadie’s big dog was very helpful in holding all her bath supplies. I let Sadie splash around in the pool for a bit before we got down to business. The bath went very well. Sadie smiled the whole time, which rarely happens in the bathtub indoors. I feel like I got more soaked than usual, but it was hot so I didn’t really care. After everyone dried off we deflated the pool and put it away until next Summer. It’s sad to see the Summer end, but now I know that bath time can be more fun for Sadie next Summer in the dog house pool.
When I was little, my Grandmother used to yell at me for going outside with my hair wet, and I would just laugh. But now that I have Sadie, I can understand. I’m always worried about her being cold, especially after a bath. She has this disturbing tendency to stay sitting in a draft or cold area, even when she is so cold she’s shivering. That’s why during one of my binge online shopping sessions for awesome dog items I never knew existed, I bought my new puppy a bathrobe. That’s right – my little princess has a princess bathrobe. I thought it was absolutely adorable and couldn’t wait for her to wear it and keep toasty warm after a bath. Turns out Sadie was not so excited, as you can see here by her dirty looks. She hates being cold and wet, but apparently a bathrobe was not a welcome solution to the problem.
Thanks for liking us! Sadie and I really appreciate all the love!
April Showers took on new meaning here today…
Just kidding. April Fool’s!
Today’s aquatic adventures actually involved a bath for my little one.
I always give Sadie a bath a few days before her flea / tick / heartworm medication is due. She does not enjoy a bath, but her protests are mostly limited to giving my sad pathetic puppy eyes. Continue reading →
