Puppy’s First Pillow

One day, not long after Sadie came to live with me, my little puppy decided to take a nap in her crate. She was so new and adorable that I couldn’t take my eyes off of her for more than ten minutes at a time, so I kept going into the room to watch her sleep. (Now, two years later, I can go almost a whole hour without checking up on her, lol.) At one point I noticed that Sadie had stuck her head out of the crate, so she was basically sleeping with her head on the hardwood floor and her body in the crate. It looked really uncomfortable to me and I decided that she needed a pillow. So I got one of her soft, bone shaped toys and put it on the floor in front of the crate.

At first she just stared at it, then looked at me like she was saying “Mom this is a toy. I’m trying to sleep here. I don’t need a toy right now.” And then she pushed it away with her paw.

So I showed Sadie what to do by placing her head onto the toy. But Sadie still wasn’t convinced that a pillow was such a good idea and she tried to squirm off of it.

Eventually Sadie allowed me to place her head properly onto the pillow and she loved it. Ever since Sadie always searches for something comfy she can lay her head on.
