Xylitol is an artificial sweetener found in most chewing gum. Many dentists, mine included, recommend chewing xylitol gum at least once a day to help strengthen tooth enamel and keep your mouth healthy. But in contrast to xylitol’s health benefits in humans, xylitol can be deadly to dogs. In small amounts this artificial sweetener can cause your dog’s blood sugar to drop drastically. In large doses, xylitol can cause liver failure in canines. So make sure when you chew your gum with xylitol for a healthy smile, you keep that gum well out of reach of your canine companions.

A very good ‘X’ word today. We knew about Xylitol but it’s always good to remind ourselves. Bernie the Frenchie

We just had an emergency trip to the vet hospital when my puppy ate a whole bottle of fluoride tablets. The fluoride was not toxic, but the pills also had xylitol in them. Luckily she was fine, but it was not a good night.

Sounds like a very scary experience. I’m glad she was ok!
Good choice for X. Xylitol can be dangerous, so always good to warn folks.
